I am just about a week into this journey and I already can’t believe it. Maybe it’s because our days start at 9am and they end around 3, 4 or 5am…but it is amazing how fast the last week has flown by. I feel slightly bad because I have at least sat down to start a blog post almost every day this past week and haven’t actually typed anything the past couple of days. The heat here is very incapacitating and as a result the past couple of times I’ve sat down to write…I just end up falling asleep. (Side note: I’m beginning to think that is the real reason they have siesta) But there’s no time like the present…since it’s a bit cooler now and I’d rather post this than the other work I have to do (if you don’t procrastinate a little, is it even school?)
Anyway, the title of this post is my resolve for my time here, be content but not too comfortable. I think for me, too much comfort is the enemy for the next couple of months. I definitely want to adjust and integrate myself into the culture but with so many options, places to go, and things to see too much comfort might just be something to avoid. I want to find that special spot where I’m content on both the nights I go out and stay. Happiness in the weekends I’ll spend exploring Sevilla or jetting off to some other country/city (slight aside: if I’m still the only one in my immediate family who has not gone to Ireland and England at the end of this I’ll be slightly upset) — and just the days I spent talking to Pepa or in the Park of Maria Luisa, but at the same time I never want there to be too much routine or too many things I can always anticipate happening.
I have a strong feeling that this semester will show me a lot. Not only in the sense that I’ll be able to explore places I only hoped to ever get to — but that if I truly work towards happiness without the confinements of comfort the lessons I will take back home will extend beyond the four short months that I’m here. My steps are being ordered, to where I might not know, but I’m excited to find out.
“Be Content…but not too comfortable” to the first of many(?) resolves I will learn about myself and the world from Spain. I will say little by little, day in and day out this city is carving its way to a permanent place in my heart.

P.S. not related to Spain at all…but seriously if you haven’t listened to the Weeknd’s new album do it. I love it.
P.P.S To all those who are going to MIA next week, before I forget…snaps of [day 1] bae’s (J. Cole) performance and The Weeknd. Please and Thank You 🙂
