December’s Final Favorites

As 2017 begins to fade to black and I think about setting goals and making changes for the new year here are some of my favorites of the past month and things that can make it easier to start 2018 off on the right foot.

  1.  The Skimm

I have been using The Skimm for quite some time but it really made 2017 much easier.  It’s not surprising that 2017 involved a lot of politics and keeping up with the news just seemed to be an important part of the day. But after a few months I found myself overwhelmed and worn out. I tried cutting out the news entirely but then I found myself feeling too disconnected from what was going on. The Skimm provided me just the right amount of balance. Each morning I get an easy and fun to read newsletter in my email that gives me the latest news (in skim form) so I feel informed but not overwhelmed. After that, I can feel free to read more on my own or just call it a day.  Sign up here and stay informed all 2018.

  1. Juvia’s Place Products

I definitely added to my makeup collection in 2017 and by far my favorite eyeshadow palettes have come from Juvia’s Place. The pigment and buttery smooth formula is out of this world from this small black owned brand. I have quickly grown to love them and only need 3 more  to have all their eyeshadow palettes. I haven’t tried their blush palettes or eyeliner yet but it’s definitely on my makeup to-do list for 2018. You can shop their products here, just don’t blame me if you get addicted.

  1. Powerdecals

Along with my growing love of makeup, 2017 saw the start of me doing my own nails again. Now don’t get me wrong I still love my trips to a good nail tech for full relaxation but for quick fixes and impromtu nail color changes I have definitely grown to like doing it myself. Powerdecals is a Black and Brown Owned indie shop that specializes in nail decal wraps. They are super easy to either DIY or take to your next appointment. You can cut the decals to whatever shape you’d like and add them as accents to spruce up any manicure. They run from $7-$10 and each strip of decals has a fun theme. So when you see me rocking black womanist icons or Black Girl Magic on my nails in 2018 you can bet it’s from Powerdecals.  Shop here to spruce up your mani in 2018.

  1. Worksmarter Lifestyle Clothing

Another small clothing brand that I’ve discovered this year, WorkSmarter Lifestyle has clothing with just simple messages to keep you focused on your goals. I expect the brand to grow during the 2018 year but for now I live in my Progress long sleeve t-shirt. I will say it is definitely one of the softest most comfortable shirts I own. Plus, I also recently got the olive green focused hoodie and it’s extremely comfortable as well. Additionally you’re supporting a black owned company so to me it counts as a win all around. (PS. the owner is Auntie Jackie Aina’s bae) Shop here!

What are you looking forward to trying in 2018? What were your 2017 staples? Let me know what I should try out next in the comments below!
